Mopho

There’s nothing I love more than a superb noodle dish.

Unfortunately, I find few places in Melbourne really pull their weight in the noodles department.

My prayers were answered when Mopho came along.

Tucked in a pokey lane near Chapel St and off Toorak Road is the relative newcomer with awesome interior, furniture and lovely staff.

I have been a few times now, each time sampling the different veg options and each time leaving full and satisfied.

Okay, yes I am aware, I was just ranting and raving over the noodles at this joint, then I blog about the silken tofu dish instead?

This is partly because I forgot to take photos of the noodle dishes I have had there and partly because the silken tofu dish is just so damn good, you have to know about it!

Now the dish is served with all kinds of gorgeous things as well as a delicious sauce that goes great over the brown rice they serve on the side.

There is a healthy amount of vegetarian options, with quite a few of the noodle dishes happily prepared meat free.

Orange

I heard about Orange through the trusted Broadsheet restaurant directory (download the app if you have an iPhone/Pad – it’s perfect on the run when you are in an unfamiliar suburb and you’re hungry!).

I dined at Orange after returning from Europe and I must say, it simply felt like I had walked into another gorgeous, old world Parisian cafe!

The wooden furniture, the dark and moody atmosphere and the jazz music gave me de ja vu.

Anyway on to the food.

There weren’t many vegetarian options in the mains section of the lunch menu, however there were a few options in the entrees and┬ámost of the starters/grazing options are vegetarian and would make a great tapas lunch.

I had freshly squeezed orange juice with the potato gnocchi –> tomato, basil, basil, balsamic reduction

The food was nice and satisfying.

The meals I picked contained all of the ingredients I love, however there was something missing that I can’t quite put my finger on.

It missed that certain je ne se quoi that gives food its wow factor.

If I head back I will be keen to try some of the grazing options which look great but I didn’t get a chance to try. Also they had an all day breakfast menu which admittedly looked like it had some great food on it.

Oriental Tea House

Today was one of those days where I was dying for Chinese food and dumplings.

So off to Oriental Tea House at Chadstone Shopping Centre I headed! (O.T.H has a few locations all over Melbourne)

What I love about this place is the large range of vegetarian options. Also, it’s pretty hard to find vegetarian dumplings so this place is perfect, they have a few different veg dumplings to choose from.

We even have our own section in the menu!

I ordered (and shared) one serve of the Buck Wheat Vegetable Chilli Dumplings

I loved every dish! It’s hard to pick a favourite, but right now I am loving the buns, you must try them if you check this place out!

This is a great place for vegetarians to head to for their chinese/yum cha fix. It perfectly caters for us and the food is really good.

People have said it’s a bit pricey for yum cha, but as I said above it’s hard to find (good) veg dumplings so for me – it’s worth it.

Haruaki Korean & Japanese Restaurant

I went along to Haruaki with some friends on Monday night after one of them emphatically recommended the joint.

She was spot on!

Haruaki serves cheap, good food with an interior to match.

But honestly, you don’t notice the simple decor when the food is as fast and tantalising at it is.

For the veg heads: there is a pretty good range of veg dishes, especially in the starters. However there could be a few more veg options in the mains.

For my starter I ordered a delicious marinated tofu dish (sorry I didn’t get a photo of it!) and I tried some of my friend’s vegetarian gyoza which were nice.

I’m not the biggest gyoza fan but I liked these as they had soy protein inside.

For my main I ordered the Vegetable Bibimbap with extra tofu (if you haven’t ┬ánoticed I loveeee tofu) – a signature Korean dish.

Bibimbap literally means ‘mixed meal’ – so as you can imagine it’s a mixture of delicious asian veggies, tofu on rice with a fiery sauce and a raw egg on top.

It arrived steaming hot and my friends quickly grabbed a soy sauce and chilli bottle in each hand and added it to the dish whilst it was steaming.

The flavours were strong, spicy, and exciting. Can’t wait to have it again.

If you’re in the area (Chapel Street, Windsor) and up for a cheap, good meal give it a shot.
